First day in class after our Christmas holidays and I
thought of a different way to start the New Year.
I challenged my 5th grade students
to choose a word as a focus and even a motivator for the year. Additionally
they had to choose another word referring to what they wish not to happen
during the year.
After collecting their chosen words, each
one in turns explained what their word, in both cases, meant to them.
This activity was initially food for thought
and a good step to start talking about personal interests and current events.
