● develop creativity, when they have to create their own outfits, costumes, sets, shadow puppet theaters

● learn by doing

● increase the respect and acceptance to others

Introducing "The very hungry caterpillar "

This is a classic book by Eric Carle. It is about a sad ugly caterpillar who turns into a beautiful butterfly with the help of her friends. The target audience is the 1st grade students.

Hopefully they will acquire new language, understand spoken English, try to produce and improve the pronunciation and develop creativity.

The task

● Watch the story online being narrated by the writer himself.

● Describe the story and let the children explain the sequence of it.

● Try to dramatize by miming the roles of the caterpillar and her friends.

● Create our own masks in order to dramatize it more realistically (find the patterns on the Net, cut, paint and laminate them).

● Present the dramatization and create a short video to be uploaded on the school's blog.

● The children learn about colors, numbers, feelings, the circle of life.

The Heuristics

1. Visibility of system status (the learner is guided what, when and why we take every step)

2. Match between system and the real world (the learner gets to know everyday language and everyday feelings)

3. User control and freedom (the learner has the freedom to express himself/herself in every way)

4. Consistency and standards (doubts but stick on standards)

5. Flexibility and efficiency of use

6. Aesthetic and minimalist design

7. Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors.

8. Interactivity (learn by doing).

9. Team work
