The matching game for the 2nd graders

The Match game challenges children to match letter cards and picture cards that begin with that letter, for example, L,l  with a picture of a lamp. Children learn to read by first learning the phonics that is how letters sound. Once children learn how individual letters sound, they can then string them together to sound out simple words like hat or pen.
We used the letters we have learned so far and flashcards with words we already know. Each student had to pick a picture card from the magic bag and try to match it to the correct letter card.Of course we helped the kids who had difficulties by sounding out the letter and then sounding out the picture name to listen for a correct match.
